What is traditional chinese medicine?
Traditional chinese medicine has over 5000 years of history and is a holistic approach to health care which uses natural techniques to activate and support the body’s natural energy flow. The energy is referred to as Qi and when blockages occur in the flow of Qi or there is an inadequate supply of Qi, the body fails to maintain normal function and disease or illness follows. Traditional Chinese medicine treatments are tailored to your individual health condition to restore your body's normal balance and function which will treat both your presenting ailments and assist your general wellbeing to prevent other conditions from developing.
Acupuncture, Cupping, Tuina remedial massage
Acupuncture treatment involves the insertion of fine, sterile needles into specific sites, acupoints, along the body where Qi flow can be influenced. Stimulating these points clears blockages and encourages the normal flow of Qi through the body. Using these same points other techniques such as cupping, the use of glass or bamboo suction cups, and traditional chinese medicine remedial massage, tuina, can also release and regulate the flow of Qi.
Acupuncture treatment is an effective and safe when administered by a trained professional acupuncturist. The effects are varied dependant on the individual. In general it is relaxing, relieving to muscle tension and to most people does not hurt. The number of treatments required will depend on your presentation of symptoms and your response to the treatment itself.
Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine
Chinese herbal medicine involves the use of natural substances to regulate the body’s function. Most chinese herbs are from plant origin (leaves, seeds, twigs, stems, roots, flowers, fruit) though some animal and mineral substances may be used. Chinese herbs are usually taken in combination in a personalised formula to treat your individual condition, to enhance normal body function and prevent illness from occurring.
Herbal medicine can be administered in various forms; raw herbs for boiling decoction, herbal capsules/pills, herbal tinctures, herbal teas or herbal powders.
